A peeling, blotchy pool deck in Redmond was ground to clean concrete and coated in Quartzite flake with Certified Penntek polyurea in April 2026.
A pool deck takes more abuse than most concrete. Sun all summer, rain all winter, wet feet, pool chemicals splashed over the edge and a cover that rolls across one end. This Redmond pool deck had an old coating that was failing. Big patches had flaked off, leaving a blotchy mix of white paint and bare grey concrete around the whole pool.
In April 2026 Cascade's crew stripped it back and installed a pool deck coating in Redmond with Certified Penntek polyurea and Quartzite flake. The deck is a long band of concrete wrapped in lawn, with tall evergreens behind it. Now it reads as one clean, light frame around the water.
At the March 2026 consultation the problem was easy to see. The old surface coating was peeling in sheets along the pool edge, especially where water sits and where sun hits hardest. Underneath, the concrete was sound. The moisture meter read 4.1% on the deck.
Peeling like this usually comes down to two things. The old product only grabbed the surface instead of bonding into the concrete, and it was too stiff to handle a slab that heats up in July and freezes in January. The crew worked around the pool cover track and kept the coating tight to the grass line on every side. The deck work ran across April, so the schedule was set around the weather, not squeezed into a single day.
Quartzite is a Hybrid Terrazzo Flake blend in light sand and stone tones. Next to the blue pool cover and green lawn it looks calm and natural, more like stone than paint. It also hides the fir needles and dry grass clippings that end up on any deck surrounded by lawn. You can see the full range of blends on our colors and styles page.
An outdoor deck lives in direct sun, which is where typical epoxy yellows and chalks. FadeLock™ in the Penntek topcoat passed a 16-hour QUV accelerated UV test, and the flake itself is UV stable. The color should look the same years from now.
The basecoat is flexible, so it moves with the concrete through hot afternoons and frosty nights instead of cracking. Bond strength tests at over 1,300 PSI. Before the coating comes up, the concrete will come up. See more tests on our durability demo page.

We don't coat over it. The old coating is diamond ground off down to clean concrete, then the Penntek system bonds directly to the slab. Coating over a failing layer only means the new one fails with it.
The full flake broadcast leaves texture in the surface under the topcoat, which helps with grip on wet feet. We don't publish slip ratings, so we're happy to show you a sample at the consult.
The topcoat carries FadeLock™ UV stability and passed a 16-hour QUV accelerated UV test. It won't yellow or amber, and the flake is UV stable too.
