New Construction in Everett Gets Stoney Creek Flake Before the Paint

A new commercial building in Everett had every room and hallway coated in Stoney Creek flake polyurea after drywall and before paint.

Not every concrete coating goes into a garage. This Everett project was a new commercial building still under construction. The drywall was hung and taped but not painted, the window trim was going in, and a mini-split was already on the wall. Underneath it all was a fresh concrete slab running through a hallway and a series of connected rooms.

The building's owner wanted a durable floor that would be done before the finish trades moved in. In August 2026 our crew put down a commercial concrete coating in Everett with Certified Penntek polyurea in Stoney Creek flake, across every room, over two days.

Coating a building before it's finished

Timing is everything on new construction. Coat too early and the floor gets scratched by ladders, carts and drywall lifts. Coat too late and you're working around cabinets, fixtures and fresh paint. Here the floor went down after drywall but before painting and trim, so the crew had open rooms and full access to every wall.

Green moisture-resistant board in one small room marked where a wet area would go. The coating runs right up to the wall in there too, so water has nowhere to soak in at the edges.

Two days, room by room

Work ran across late August 2026. Because the layout was a run of separate rooms and a hallway, the crew moved through it in sections:

  1. Moisture testing on the new slab.
  2. Industrial diamond grind in every room, edges and corners included.
  3. Vacuum each space clean.
  4. Pure polyurea basecoat, over 99% solids, bonded with a silane adhesion promoter.
  5. Full broadcast of Stoney Creek flake, then scrape and collect.
  6. Polyaspartic topcoat with FadeLock™ UV stability.

Saw-cut control joints were kept as clean lines through the finish. You can see more of this kind of work on our commercial projects page.

Stoney Creek across connected rooms

Stoney Creek is a warm, earthy flake with tan, brown, grey and white chips. In this building it reads as a soft neutral that will go with almost any wall color the owner picks later. Running the same flake through every room and the hallway makes the space feel bigger and more consistent.

Flake also does a lot of quiet work in a commercial space. It hides scuffs, dust and foot traffic between cleanings, and the broadcast leaves a little texture under the topcoat. If you're weighing options, browse all of our colors and styles.

Why polyurea for a commercial interior

Commercial floors take rolling carts, chairs, dropped tools and daily mopping. The Penntek basecoat is flexible and absorbs impact instead of chipping. See it in the Penntek Hammer Test.

The bond is chemical, at over 1,300 PSI. Before the coating comes up, the concrete will come up. The polyaspartic topcoat is non-porous, so spills clean up and the surface stays easy to maintain. Our post on what Penntek polyurea is covers the system in more detail.

New construction floors in Everett

Everett has steady commercial building, from small offices to mixed-use projects. Getting the floor coating on the construction schedule early saves headaches later. We test moisture on new slabs before any coating goes down, and we can plan around the general contractor's sequence.

New build coating questions

When should floors be coated in a new building?

Usually after drywall and before paint, trim and fixtures. The rooms are open, and the new floor won't be scratched by the heaviest construction work.

Can polyurea go on interior commercial floors, not just garages?

Yes. The same Certified Penntek system works in offices, shops, studios and service rooms. It's built for foot traffic, rolling loads and frequent cleaning.

Does a new slab need moisture testing?

Yes. New concrete holds water as it cures. We test every slab before coating so the floor bonds properly.
