Automotive Unlimited in Everett coated about 3,000 sq ft of service bays in solid Light Grey Penntek polyurea, worked around every car lift.
An auto repair shop is hard on concrete. Cars roll in on hot tires, fluids drip all day, lift posts carry thousands of pounds, and the floor gets scrubbed constantly. Automotive Unlimited in Everett had a big open service bay with rows of two-post lifts and glass roll-up doors, all sitting on bare, stained concrete.
The shop owner wanted a bright, clean floor that would look professional to customers and wipe up after a long day. In April 2025 our crew finished a commercial floor coating in Everett with Certified Penntek polyurea: about 3,000 square feet of solid Light Grey through the service bays, plus flake floors in the smaller rooms off the shop.
We first walked the space in February 2025. The concrete was rated Good on the warranty card, but it had all the wear you'd expect from a working shop:
We set Penntek sample boards on the floor during that visit so the owner could see the colors under the shop's own lights.
A commercial floor this size isn't a one-day garage. The main install ran over several days in mid-April 2025, with the air at 60°F, and the work was planned around the lifts and the bays.
The result is a glossy, even floor that runs from the roll-up doors to the back wall, with the red lifts standing out against it.
Light Grey is a solid color, no flake. In a service bay that matters. A solid, light floor bounces the overhead light around, so techs can see a dropped bolt or a fresh drip right away. It also makes a shop look clean and organized the moment a customer walks in.
The smaller rooms got a black, white and grey flake instead. Those spaces see foot traffic, not lifts, and the flake hides scuffs between cleanings.
Three things kill coatings in auto shops: hot tires, chemicals and impact.
Hot tires. A car that just came off the road can soften weak coatings and pull them right up. The polyaspartic topcoat resists hot tire pickup. Read more in our post on polyurea and hot tire pickup.
Fluids. Oil, gas, grease and road salt sit on the non-porous topcoat instead of soaking into the concrete. Watch the Penntek Stain Test to see it.
The bond. Over 1,300 PSI bond strength. Before the coating comes up, the concrete will come up. The floor is registered under Penntek's commercial warranty, backed by the manufacturer, with dealers in 200 markets. More test videos are on our demo page.
Typical epoxy is brittle by comparison, and in busy shops problems often show in years 3–5. Penntek polyurea is built to last up to 5x longer.

For a shop, yes. Polyurea is flexible and bonds chemically with the concrete, and the polyaspartic topcoat resists hot tire pickup and stains from oil, gas and grease. Typical epoxy is more rigid and tends to chip and lift under that kind of use.
