Worn paint, chipped steps and a broken wall cap on a blue Seattle home became a Tidal Wave flake porch with solid smoky blue caps in Certified Penntek polyurea.
Some houses make you smile before you reach the door. This one is a storybook Seattle home with blue stucco, an arched front door and low walls framing a small front porch. The porch and its steps had been painted a dark slate blue years ago. By last summer the paint was worn through on every tread, the wall caps were chipped and one corner had a chunk broken out of it.
In September 2025 our crew finished a front porch and steps coating in Seattle with Certified Penntek polyurea. The porch and four steps got Tidal Wave flake, and the wall caps got a solid smoky blue that matches the house trim. 210 square feet in all.
We did the free consultation at the end of July 2025. Moisture readings came in at 3.9% and 4.0%. The concrete itself was rated poor:
Entries are detail work. Every step has a nose, a riser and two ends, and the wall caps are narrow and exposed on three sides. This one took two visits.
The handrail stayed in place, and the crew coated neatly around its base. The porch now reads as one finished surface from the sidewalk to the door.
Tidal Wave Evolution is a blend of blue, gray, white and black chips. On a pale blue house, it picks up the color of the walls without matching it exactly, so the porch looks like it belongs. The solid smoky blue on the caps ties into the window trim and door, and gives the edges a crisp finish.

Porch paint is a thin layer on top of the concrete. Water gets under it, foot traffic wears it, and it is back to bare in a few seasons. That is not the homeowner's fault. It is the system.
Penntek polyurea bonds chemically with the concrete at over 1,300 PSI, using a silane adhesion promoter. Before the coating comes up, the concrete will come up. The basecoat is flexible, so it moves with freeze-thaw instead of cracking. You can see that in the Penntek Stretch Test. And the floor carries a limited lifetime warranty backed by Penntek, the manufacturer.
Seattle has a lot of older homes with poured concrete porches and short flights of front steps. Rain, moss and fall leaves are hard on them. A non-porous topcoat lets you sweep or hose off the mess, and a coated entry is a quick way to make an older house look cared for.

Not always. When the rail is set into the concrete, the crew can coat carefully around each post. When it is surface mounted over the area being coated, it may come off and go back on.
