A Woodinville Front Patio and Rounded Entry Steps Get Domino Flake

A 340 sq ft Woodinville front patio and two rounded steps with worn black paint, coated in Domino flake over a black polyurea base in one day in June 2025.

Domino flake polyurea front patio along a white single-story home in Woodinville

The front of this Woodinville home is the first thing guests see, and the concrete was letting it down. The patio along the front of the house was plain gray, darkened by rain and dirt along the edges. The two rounded steps up to the front door had been painted black at some point, and that paint was worn and scuffed, with a doormat and tile inserts covering the worst of it. A dog shows up in the consult photos too, which means paws on those steps every day.

In June 2025 Cascade coated the patio and steps with Certified Penntek polyurea in Domino flake over a black base. A patio coating in Woodinville that ties the front walk, the steps and the house trim together.

Measuring the front entry

The free consultation was in April 2025, on a wet spring day. The concrete was soaked from rain and showed water sitting in low spots. The job came out to 340 square feet of patio plus two stairs. The concrete tested in OK condition, solid enough to coat once it was ground and repaired. On install day the air was 75°F, a good warm day for outdoor work.

What the crew did

  1. Diamond grind the patio and both steps, including the curved step faces and the old black paint.
  2. Vacuum everything clean.
  3. Repair cracks and chips with Penntek Mender.
  4. Pure polyurea basecoat in black, so the step edges and risers keep a crisp dark outline.
  5. Full broadcast of Domino flake.
  6. Scrape, collect, and seal with a polyaspartic topcoat with FadeLock™.

Patio and steps were done in one day.

Domino on a black base

Domino Evolution is a crisp mix of black, white and gray chips. Over a black basecoat it reads a little deeper, and the curved step edges keep a dark band that echoes the black door, black window trim and black gutters on the house. Against the white siding and the green lawn, it looks deliberate, like it was designed with the house.

Built for sun, rain and the seasons

An outdoor slab gets more abuse than a garage. Sun, rain, frost and leaves all hit it directly.

  • UV. FadeLock™ in the topcoat passed a 16-hour QUV accelerated UV test, and the flake is UV stable. It won't yellow or amber in the summer sun.
  • Movement. The flexible polyurea basecoat moves with the slab through freeze-thaw. Watch the Penntek Stretch Test.
  • Bond. Over 1,300 PSI chemical bond with the concrete. Before the coating comes up, the concrete will come up.

Patio coatings in Woodinville

Woodinville gets long wet stretches from fall to spring, and front patios on the shady side of a house can stay damp for days. Moss and algae love bare concrete. A sealed, non-porous surface gives them less to hold on to and hoses off fast. Cascade is based right here, so take a look at our Woodinville concrete coatings or see a Woodinville garage we finished in Mount Everest.

Patio and steps FAQ

Can you coat outdoor concrete steps?

Yes. Steps get ground and coated just like the patio, treads and curved faces included. On this job the two rounded steps got Domino flake on top and a black base on the edges.

Does a coated patio get slippery when wet?

The flake broadcast leaves a light texture under the topcoat, which helps underfoot when it rains. Our post on whether coated floors are slippery goes into more detail.

Will the sun fade a flake patio?

The topcoat carries FadeLock™ UV stability and the flake is UV stable, so the color should hold up in direct sun.
