Smoke flake polyurea garage floor with a coated concrete stem wall in North Bend

In July 2025 this North Bend garage belonged to the kids. Bikes with training wheels, a scooter, helmets, rain boots and a soccer ball covered most of the floor, and the bare slab under it all was stained grey concrete with a long, tall stem wall running down one side where the foundation steps up.

A month later it had a garage floor coating in North Bend that can take all of that and still clean up with a hose: Certified Penntek polyurea in Smoke flake, run across the floor and up that stem wall so the whole room looks finished.

The July walk-through

We came out for the free consultation in mid July, stepping around the bikes. Two moisture readings came in at 6.2% and 5.6%. Every slab gets tested before we quote, since moisture in the concrete decides whether the job needs our two-layer moisture barrier system.

The slab had the usual wear for a newer build. Grey and tan staining, construction marks, control joints and a plumbing line coming through the wall by the electrical panel. The stem wall was the interesting part. A tall run of bare concrete like that is easy to leave raw, but it's the first thing you see from the driveway.

What the crew did in August

  1. Diamond grind the floor and the face of the stem wall, then vacuum.
  2. Penntek Mender crack repair where the grind exposed any cracks.
  3. Pure polyurea basecoat, chemically bonded to the concrete through a silane adhesion promoter.
  4. Smoke flake broadcast to full coverage on the floor and the wall.
  5. Scrape and collect the excess.
  6. Polyaspartic topcoat with FadeLock™ UV stability.

Coating a vertical surface takes more care than a floor. The flake has to stick to a wall, not just settle on it, and the edge where the wall meets the drywall has to be clean. You can see that line in the photos.

Smoke for a family garage

Smoke Evolution is a mid grey blend of black, grey and white chips. It's darker than our lightest blends, which matters in a garage that sees muddy shoes and bike tires every day. Dirt, gravel dust and scuffs blend into the pattern until you get around to sweeping. Against the white drywall it still looks crisp.

Why this floor takes a beating

Kids drop things. Bikes tip over. Scooters skid. A coating that chips the first time a bike falls isn't much of a coating. Penntek polyurea bonds chemically with the concrete at over 1,300 PSI. Before the coating comes up, the concrete will come up. The Penntek Hammer Test shows that bond taking repeated hits.

The polyaspartic topcoat is non-porous, so mud, juice boxes and oil wipe off. For a simple routine, see our guide on cleaning a polyurea floor. The floor is covered by a limited lifetime warranty backed by Penntek, the manufacturer, and Penntek's dealers in 200 markets mean it can be serviced for decades.

North Bend garages at the foot of the pass

North Bend sits under Mount Si at the edge of the Snoqualmie Valley, the last stop before I-90 climbs to Snoqualmie Pass. Garages here see more snow, slush and road salt than most of the Eastside, plus plenty of rain. A non-porous floor that sheds that mess, over a basecoat that flexes through freeze-thaw, makes sense up here.

We cover the whole valley from Woodinville. Our garage floor coatings near Issaquah page is the closest service area page, and you can see another North Bend garage we finished in Domino. More jobs are on our portfolio.

North Bend family garage FAQ

Can you coat the concrete walls in a garage, not just the floor?

Yes. Stem walls, curbs and steps can get the same grind, basecoat, flake and topcoat as the floor. It ties the room together and protects the concrete that takes kicks and splashes.

Is a polyurea garage floor a good fit for a house with kids?

It's one of the best uses for it. The bond resists chips from dropped bikes and toys, and the topcoat cleans up with a mop or hose. The flake adds a bit of texture underfoot.

What color hides dirt best in a busy garage?

Mid tone blends like Smoke hide the most. Very light floors show mud and very dark floors show dust. We bring samples to the consult so you can see them on your own slab.
