A 420 sq ft Medina garage rated Poor, with old paint and patches, ground and coated in single-color Rhino Grey flake polyurea.
Most flake floors are a blend of three or four colors. This Medina garage went the other way. The goal was a calm, even grey that still had the texture of a flake floor underfoot, with no black or white chips jumping out. Rhino Grey, a single-color 1/4 inch flake, did exactly that.
Getting there took real prep. The 420 square foot slab was rated Poor, with old paint, patched sections and an EV charger mounted on a center post. In April 2026 our crew installed a garage floor coating in Medina with Certified Penntek polyurea and Rhino Grey flake, plus 41 feet of coated wall base.
The consultation was in late March 2026, on a wet day. The floor had a lot going on:
On the Penntek warranty job card, the concrete was logged as Poor. On install day the slab read 4.1% moisture at 55°F, with the air at 55°F and 64.4% humidity. Those numbers go on file with Penntek for every floor we coat.
Install started on April 15, 2026, and the finished photos were taken the next day.
The crew worked around the support post with the EV charger, the plumbing along the back wall and the steps up to the house door.
Rhino Grey is a single-color flake. From across the garage it reads as a solid mid grey. Up close you still see the chips and feel the texture, which a plain solid coating doesn't give you. It pairs cleanly with white walls, white trim and the grey wall base, and it keeps the room feeling quiet and organized.

The coating is only as good as the concrete under it. That's why prep comes first. Once the slab is ground to sound concrete and repaired, the polyurea basecoat bonds at over 1,300 PSI. Before the coating comes up, the concrete will come up.
The basecoat is over 99% solids with no fillers, and it flexes with the slab. Typical epoxy often shows problems in years 3–5. A Penntek floor is built for 30–40 years. Medina sits on the Lake Washington shoreline between Bellevue and the water, with big trees, mossy lots and plenty of rain. Garages here often hold EVs and see a lot of wet tires in winter. A sealed floor with hot tire pickup resistance keeps that grime on the surface.

Carrying the coating a few inches up the wall seals the joint where the slab meets the wall. Water, dirt and leaves can't collect there, and the floor looks finished at the edges. This job had 41 feet of it.
Yes. The charger stays mounted, and the crew grinds and coats around the post or wall it's on. The topcoat resists hot tire pickup, which matters with heavier EVs.
