A 664 Square Foot Mukilteo Garage Finished in Tidal Wave

A big Mukilteo garage with rust streaks on the slab, tested three times and coated in 1/4 inch Tidal Wave flake polyurea in September 2026.

Big garages show everything. This Mukilteo garage is a deep, wide space with white walls, exposed ductwork, several doors into the house and a window at the back. The slab was solid, but it had rust streaks from something metal that sat on it for years, along with scuffs and grey staining across 664 square feet.

In September 2026 our crew finished a garage floor coating in Mukilteo with Certified Penntek polyurea in Tidal Wave flake. The light blue-grey floor now matches how clean the rest of the room looks.

Readings from July to September

The free consultation was in July 2026. We ran a scratch test with a hardness pick and took moisture readings in three spots: 4.2%, 5.6% and 6.0%. The highest one sat right by the rust streaks near the door.

Moisture changes with the season, so the crew tests again on installation day. In late September the slab read 6.2%, with the slab at 60.4°F, air at 62°F, 80% humidity and a dew point of 50°F. The concrete was rated in great condition. Every one of those numbers goes on the Penntek warranty job card, which is registered with the manufacturer.

Two days for a big floor

A garage this size was spread across two days.

  1. Day one: diamond grind all 664 square feet, vacuum and fill joints and cracks with Penntek Mender crack repair.
  2. Day two: final prep and a fresh moisture reading.
  3. Roll the pure polyurea basecoat, over 99% solids.
  4. Broadcast 1/4 inch Tidal Wave flake to full coverage.
  5. Scrape and collect the extra flake.
  6. Seal with a polyaspartic topcoat with FadeLock™ UV stability.

Tidal Wave in a white garage

Tidal Wave Evolution mixes white, grey and soft blue chips. Against white walls and white doors it reads bright and fresh, which fits a town on the water. The 1/4 inch flake gives a fine, even pattern that looks clean from the driveway and hides dust up close.

Why this floor will hold up

A lot of people search for an epoxy garage floor. What we install is Certified Penntek polyurea, and the difference is easy to see over time. Typical epoxy often shows problems in years 3–5. Penntek floors are built for up to 5x that lifespan.

  • The basecoat bonds chemically with the concrete at over 1,300 PSI. Before the coating comes up, the concrete will come up.
  • The polyaspartic topcoat resists hot tire pickup. Our post on preventing hot tire pickup explains why that matters.
  • It takes impact well. Watch the Penntek Hammer Test, or see more on our demo page.

Garage floors along the Mukilteo waterfront

Mukilteo sits on Possession Sound, home of the ferry to Whidbey Island. Marine air keeps humidity high, like the 80% reading on install day. That is why moisture testing is part of every quote. Our post on why moisture testing matters in our climate goes deeper.

We serve Mukilteo from our Woodinville base. See our garage floor coatings near Mukilteo in Edmonds, or look at an Edmonds garage finished in Smoke for a darker option.

Questions about large garage floors

Does humidity affect a garage floor coating install?

Yes, which is why the crew records air temperature, humidity and dew point on install day. Penntek polyurea is made for Northwest conditions, and those readings help the crew time each coat.

How long does a large garage take to coat?

Many garages are done in one day. Bigger floors, like this 664 square foot Mukilteo garage, may be split across two days for grinding and repairs, and we tell you the schedule up front.

What does a 1/4 inch flake look like?

It is a fine to medium chip that gives an even, speckled pattern. It hides dust and tire marks well and suits most garages.
