A detached garage tends to become whatever the household needs: storage, a project space, a place to park the good car out of the rain. This one in Snohomish has two doors, a support post in the middle, a water heater in the corner and a step up to a side door. The concrete had oil stains near the doors, paint cans parked on it and the dull grey look of a slab nobody had ever sealed.
In April 2026 Cascade installed a garage floor coating in Snohomish across all 1,116 square feet, using Certified Penntek polyurea in Quartzite hybrid flake. The result is a light, clean floor that makes a plain outbuilding feel like part of the house.
The free consultation was in March 2026. Two tests drive most of what happens next.
On install day the slab tested again at 4.3%, with the concrete at 71°F, air at 60°F and 44.5% humidity. The concrete was in good condition overall, just stained and unsealed.
Quartzite is part of Penntek's Hybrid Terrazzo Flake System. Instead of one chip size, the hybrid blend mixes sizes, so the floor reads more like natural stone than a uniform speckle. In this garage it comes across as a warm, light beige-grey that goes well with the cream walls and white trim. Dust and tire tracks fade into it. Garage floors fail in a few predictable ways. Oil soaks in. Hot tires lift the coating. Moisture pushes it off from below. Penntek is built against all three.
The polyaspartic topcoat is non-porous, so oil, gas and road salt stay on top where you can wipe them up. You can watch that in the Penntek Stain Test. It also resists hot tire pickup. Underneath, the polyurea bonds chemically with the concrete at over 1,300 PSI. Before the coating comes up, the concrete will come up. And every job starts with the moisture readings, so the floor is matched to the slab it sits on.
The floor carries a limited lifetime warranty backed by Penntek, the manufacturer, and Cascade registers it on every job.
Around Snohomish, plenty of properties have a detached garage or shop set back from the house. Those slabs often sit on damp ground, see little heat in winter and get used hard. Moisture isn't even across a slab. On this garage the readings ranged from 4.2% to 6.9% at the consult. Testing several spots, and again on install day, shows whether the floor needs a two-layer moisture barrier.
It's a flake blend that mixes chip sizes instead of using one size. The result looks more like natural stone and hides dirt well. Quartzite, used here, is one of Penntek's hybrid blends.
