A busy Kirkland family garage with flaking grey paint and cracks was ground down, repaired and coated in Slate Stone flake polyurea in August 2026.

This is a garage that gets used. Bikes hang from hooks along one wall, white cabinets and shelves line another, and there are racks of coats, bins of sports gear and a spare fridge. This Kirkland family had grey floor paint that was flaking off in patches, a couple of long cracks, and bare concrete that had soaked up years of dirt.
At the end of August 2026 our crew stripped the floor and installed a garage floor coating in Kirkland with Certified Penntek polyurea in Slate Stone flake. A few days later the bikes, bins and cabinets were back where they belong, on a floor that finally cleans up.
The free consultation was in mid-July 2026. The old grey paint had peeled away in large patches, showing bare concrete underneath, and moisture read 4.6% where we tested. A crack ran across the middle of the slab and another along the edge near the wall.
Peeling paint tells you something useful. It means whatever was on the floor never really bonded to the concrete. The fix is not another coat on top. It is getting all of it off.
The work ran over two days:
Splitting heavy removal and coating into separate days gives the crew a clean, fully prepped slab to start from on coating day.
Slate Stone Evolution is a blend of light grey, charcoal and white. With warm tan walls, white cabinets and a lot of colorful gear in the room, a neutral grey floor keeps things from looking cluttered even when the space is full. It also hides bike tire marks, mud from cleats and the general grit of a busy household.
If you like this blend, you can see it in a different garage in another Kirkland Slate Stone floor we installed during a December cold snap.
Paint and typical epoxy are porous to some degree. Oil, salt and grime soak in, and the floor stains. The polyaspartic topcoat on a Penntek floor is non-porous, so spills sit on the surface and wipe or hose off. Watch the Penntek Stain Test to see oil, salt and other garage messes clean right off.
Underneath, the basecoat bonds chemically to the concrete at over 1,300 PSI, which is the opposite of what the old paint was doing. A limited lifetime warranty backed by Penntek covers the floor, and we register it on every job. For simple upkeep through the year, our 12-month garage floor maintenance calendar lays it out month by month.
In a lot of Kirkland households the garage is storage, mudroom, bike shop and parking spot all at once. That kind of space takes a beating, and a floor you can clean in minutes makes a real difference. The crew gives you walk-on and parking times before they leave, based on that day's temperature and humidity. On this job the family had the garage reloaded within a few days of the install.
The floor needs to be clear for grinding and coating. Wall-mounted items like bike hooks and hanging cabinets can usually stay put. We'll go over what needs to move at the consult.
The polyaspartic topcoat is hard and non-porous, so mud and tire marks sit on top and clean off with a hose or mop. A mixed blend like Slate Stone hides everyday dirt between cleanings.
