The edges are where a garage floor shows its quality. This Bothell homeowner had an attached two-car garage with wood cabinets, a furnace and water heater in the corner, and a short set of concrete steps up to the house door. The slab itself was sound. What it needed was a finish that covered everything, including the steps and the low concrete stem walls along the sides.
In November 2025 our crew installed a garage floor coating in Bothell using Certified Penntek polyurea with Wild Dove flake. The floor, the steps, a concrete block by the side wall and the stem walls all got the same finish, so nothing bare is left showing.
The free consultation was on the first of November. We start every visit the same way: a scratch test with a hardness pick to see how hard the concrete is, plus a moisture check. Hardness tells us how aggressively to grind. Moisture tells us whether the slab can take a coating as is or needs a barrier first.
This floor was in decent shape. No major cracks. The bare concrete had the usual dusty, porous surface, a dark oil line along one wall and scuffed stem walls where paint and drywall mud had dripped over the years. Normal garage wear, and exactly the kind of surface that soaks up stains if you leave it bare.
We came back on November 21. Late fall in Bothell means cold, damp air, so slab temperature and moisture get checked again before anything goes down. One day, start to finish. The stem walls got a clean edge where the coating meets the drywall, which is the detail most people notice first when they walk in. The full sequence is laid out on our installation process page.
Wild Dove is a soft grey blend with white and charcoal chips. Next to the tan walls and the honey-colored cabinets it keeps the room bright without looking stark. Grey flake is also very forgiving. Tire marks, dust and the odd drip blend into the pattern instead of standing out on a solid color.
The coated steps are worth calling out. Bare concrete steps chip at the nosing and collect grime in the corners. With the same flake and topcoat as the floor, they now read as part of one finished room, and the flake texture on the treads helps underfoot.
Many people start out searching for an epoxy garage floor. What we install is Certified Penntek polyurea, and the difference shows up years later, not on day one.
Typical epoxy is rigid. Drop a wrench, or let the slab shift through a cold winter, and it can chip or crack. Problems with epoxy often show in years 3–5.
