A new Langley shop with pine walls and glass doors got 2,555 sq ft of Smoke flake Certified Penntek polyurea, stem walls included, in spring 2026.
This one is a long way from our home base in Woodinville. Langley sits at the south end of Whidbey Island, a ferry ride from the mainland, and this new shop building there is a big one: knotty pine walls, a vaulted ceiling, small square windows set high, and a row of glass roll-up doors that flood the place with light. Off the main bay are finished side rooms with white walls. The concrete under all of it was new, scuffed from construction and showing a few cracks.
In May 2026 Cascade coated the whole thing with Certified Penntek polyurea in Smoke flake. 2,555.75 square feet of floor and 81.75 square feet of concrete stem walls, finished as one continuous shop and garage floor coating in Langley.
At the free consultation in April 2026, the moisture meter read 6.0% on the bare concrete. On install day the slab tested at 5.1%, with the concrete at 67°F, air at 70°F, 66% humidity and a 51°F dew point. The concrete itself was in good condition. Cascade logs those numbers on every job because they go into the Penntek warranty registration.
Grinding showed a couple of long cracks running across the main bay, the kind new slabs develop as they cure and shrink. Construction dust, tape and debris covered the rest.
A floor this size takes more than a day. Prep ran over two days at the end of April, and the coating went down on May 1, 2026:
The saw-cut control joints were kept as clean lines through the finished floor.
Smoke Evolution is a mid-grey blend of black, grey and white chips. Under honey-colored pine it gives the room a solid, grounded base, and next to the white side rooms it reads crisp and clean. In a shop with big doors that stay open in good weather, Smoke hides sawdust, sand and tire tracks well.
Shops take heavier abuse than most garages: dropped tools, rolling jacks, chemicals and a lot of foot traffic. The Penntek basecoat bonds chemically with the concrete at over 1,300 PSI. Before the coating comes up, the concrete will come up. Watch the Penntek Hammer Test to see it take direct impacts.
The polyaspartic topcoat is non-porous, so oil, grease and gas wipe up, and it resists hot tire pickup. Those glass doors also let in a lot of sun, and FadeLock™ keeps the floor from yellowing or ambering.
