Six Days From First Visit to a Smoke Flake Garage in Everett

A plain two-car Everett garage with a cracked slab went from consult to finished Smoke flake polyurea floor in six days, installed in one.

Before and after of a two-car Everett garage coated in Smoke flake polyurea

Plenty of garages look like this one. A standard two-car layout in Everett, taped drywall that never got painted, a water heater and furnace at the back, and a plain grey slab with a crack running across it. Nothing was wrong with it, exactly. It just looked unfinished, and bare concrete soaks up every drip and stain.

The homeowner wanted a clean, easy floor without a long project. From the first visit to the finished garage floor coating in Everett took six days. The floor itself, Certified Penntek polyurea in Smoke flake, went down in one day in September 2024.

Six days from consult to floor

Nicole came out on September 6, 2024. The consultation covered the basics we check on every slab:

  • Scratch test. A hardness pick dragged across the surface to see how hard the concrete is.
  • Moisture. The meter read 4.7% in one spot and 3.9% in another.
  • Condition. One crack across the slab, a few stains near the door, and rough, unsealed concrete along the walls.

The schedule happened to line up, and the crew was back on September 12. Every job's timing depends on the calendar, but a fast turnaround is often possible when the slab is ready.

What install day looked like

The crew showed up with the grinder, dust extractor and flake buckets and worked through the garage in one day:

  1. Industrial diamond grind across the whole slab, edges and corners included.
  2. Vacuum until no dust is left behind.
  3. Pure polyurea basecoat, over 99% solids, bonded with a silane adhesion promoter.
  4. Full broadcast of Smoke flake from wall to wall.
  5. Scrape and collect the extra chips.
  6. Polyaspartic topcoat with FadeLock™ UV stability.

By the end of the day the crack and stains were covered, and the floor ran up to the stem walls and around the water heater stand. Our post on the Penntek installation process explains each step.

Smoke in a two-car garage

Smoke Evolution mixes black, charcoal, grey and white chips into a medium grey. In a garage with beige walls and plain drywall, it adds contrast and makes the space look intentional. It's one of the most forgiving colors we install. Tire marks, dust and wet footprints all disappear into the pattern.

Why Smoke flake beats a quick paint job

A lot of people with a garage like this think about rolling on a DIY kit. That's a fair weekend project, but those coatings sit on top of unground concrete and often lift under hot tires or peel within a few years.

The Penntek system is different from the ground up. Diamond grinding opens the concrete. The basecoat forms a chemical bond at over 1,300 PSI. Before the coating comes up, the concrete will come up. And the polyaspartic topcoat resists hot tire pickup and stays non-porous, so oil and road grime wipe off. Our post on DIY vs. professional installs lays it out.

See the bond and flexibility tested in the Penntek Stretch Test. The floor carries a limited lifetime warranty backed by Penntek.

Everett garages and wet winters

From October to spring, Everett cars come home wet. Rain and road film drip off onto the slab every night. Bare concrete absorbs it and starts to stain. A sealed polyurea floor keeps it on the surface, where a squeegee or mop takes care of it.

Quick-turnaround questions

How soon after the consultation can you install?

It depends on the schedule and the slab. This Everett garage was installed six days after the first visit. Nicole will give you real dates at the consult.

Do you fix cracks before coating?

Yes. Cracks are cleaned out during grinding and filled with Penntek Mender crack repair before the basecoat goes down. The flexible basecoat then moves with the slab.

Is a basic builder garage worth coating?

Yes. A plain garage benefits the most. It goes from bare, stain-prone concrete to a sealed, easy-clean floor in one day, without changing anything else in the room.
